The National Phycology Collection of Canada presently houses over 80,000 samples or lots, with specimens from the Bacillariophyceae (ca. 79%) representing the dominant class in the collection.
There are an estimated 250,000 specimens in the collection, currently 170,000 are catalogued here.
CANA has a good collection of seaweeds from the Canadian Arctic and along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts.
The freshwater diatom collection has a strong representation from eastern North America and the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Many of the specimens have water quality data.
